We will solve social problems by applying new interface informational technology to the difficult physical world.
Our society began with hunting, followed by agriculture, then industry, and now we are in the fourth society driven by informational technology. In the next fifth society, Society 5.0, the information world and the physical world will merge and technologies will be created to solve our problems. These problems include terrorism, organized crime, nuclear weapons, super-aging, natural disasters, resource depletion, and food shortages, all of which are truly difficult to solve. These problems are all in the physical world. In order to solve these problems using information technology, we believe that a new functional interface that fuses the boundaries between the physical and information worlds will be the key to the future, and we are studying the fundamental technologies of smart sensors, physical security, and powder computers and their applications.
Pioneering smart sensors that copy the physical world to the informational world with high precision
We are developing sensor technologies that digitally measure and quantify, for example, air vibrations caused by human speech and electric field fluctuations caused by the proximity of human fingers. These sensors have the ability to copy the state of the physical world to the informational world, forming a complete digital copy of the physical world in the information world. This concept is called the digital twin.
- What is Society 5.0 ?
Our society began with hunting, then agriculture, then industry, and now we are in the fourth society driven by information technology. In the next fifth society, Society 5.0, the information world and the physical world will merge and technologies will be created to solve our problems.
- What is Digital Twin ?
The image is like the world in a mirror that copies the real-world environment into virtual space, and is meant to be a “digital twin”. It is also characterized by its ability to measure a more realistic physical space in real time.
In the next generation of Soceity 5.0, we aim to solve a variety of social problems with smart sensor technology that forms our high-precision digital twin.
Development of physical security to confront physical attacks on informational terminals
We are developing physical security to combat physical attacks, which are so-called cyber attacks or informational leaks. These attacks include, but are not limited to stealing secret keys by observing electromagnetic waves, power consumption leaked from integrated circuits in digital devices, such as terminals and PCs, or falsifying information by irradiating circuits with high-powered lasers or electromagnetic waves.
We have applied smart sensor technology to develop the world’s first physical attack sensor that detects physical attacks themselves on the circuit side. We are also researching and developing resilient cryptographic systems that can withstand the battlefield of electronic warfare.
Development of a “powder” computer that creates an interface between an invisibly small computer and an energy field
We are working on invisibly small “powder” computers that physically merge with the physical world by pursuing the extreme downsizing of computers.
This “powder” computer os so tiny that people can swallow it to check on their health.
The biggest challenge is the energy to run the computer, and the battery is the biggest component, but we are researching an interface to make it wireless. We are also developing new applications that take advantage of the characteristics of these imperceptible powders to enter the world of the mind.
